The initial dilemma was to decide on a letter style that would comfortably cover 2000 years of history. Carolingian with its long, elegant ascenders and descenders offered up the opportunity to add a time line to show the reign of each monarch together with their House and their shield colours. The modern day Royal coat of arms sits proudly at the foot flanked by a list of the Anglo-Saxon kings and important battles that have helped to define Britain.
