This 50th birthday gift has been one of my favourite commissions.

Inspired by the incredible 'Book of Kells', the obvious letter choice was an Insular script, but for me, too obvious. So I decided to give this commission a modern twist by italisising and compressing the letters. Working from photographs of the recipient, I created this caricature in a medieval style. He is sat at his reading desk and surrounded by all the things he loves.
