In the Spotlight for August - 'Wish you were here'

   Pink Floyd 1975

Pink Floyd is a band that I simply adore and 'Wish you were here', is one of my favourite albums! I decided to celebrate my passion for the title track by arranging these obscure lyrics in a contemporary calligraphic script. The track encompasses Roger Waters' feelings of alienation from other people and refers to former band member Syd Barrett's breakdown, a theme which runs through the entire album. David Gilmour and Roger Waters collaborated to complete the song.

I thought an informal, modern hand would suit the content well and I have deliberately removed the space between lines to create impact. The overall layout is carefully designed with individual words and lines of text arranged to produce an interesting flow of lettering. The larger but fainter lettering introduces a rhythm and contrast to emphasise the message within.

The background illustration is Pink Floyd's iconic image from the album cover surrounded by their trademark circle of stage lights. These are accentuated by the use of 23 carat real gold leaf.

Enjoy listening to this classic track!
